This is a series of 47 caches along the Kerry Ridgeway – a gentle 15 mile route from Cider House Farm near Kerry in Wales, across the border to Bishops Castle in Shropshire. It holds a long tradition as a trade and drovers’ route from Wales to the lowland English markets.
The ancient pathway forges a route through heather moors, woodlands and bilberry rich heaths, and follows a ridge top overlooking Wales on the one side and England on the other. It never dips below 1000 feet above sea level, resulting in remarkable views in all directions, up to 70 miles on a clear day.
The caches have been placed with the kind permission of the landowners, Forestry Commission and Powys County Council. Special thanks to Ginny from Powys County Council for all her help and advice, and for allowing me to use the information from their trail leaflet. As always respect the countryside, private land and livestock. Please keep dogs under close control at all times.
The route has been divided into four sections – all sections can be completed on foot, bike, or horse. Sections 2 and 4 can be done as a drive-by, but please be aware that the roads are narrow and not always in the best state of repair – watch out for potholes, especially if it has been raining. Drive carefully and be considerate where you park.

TWO TUMPS
The 2 Bronze Age burial mounds known as Two tumps must have been hugely impressive when constructed. However following years of weathering they have been diminished to grassy mounds. When excavated the first tumulus contained 3 cremations, and fragments of typical tools used in the middle Stone Age.
The viewpoint cairn gives you the opportunity to take in the extensive views. Using the information boards make a note of the distances in miles for the following
Black Mountains = a b
Brecon Beacons = c d
Llandinam Windfarm = e
Foel Fadlan = f g
Cadair Idris = h i
The Arans = j k
Mynydd Y Bryn = l m
Using the information obtained work out the following:
N52 jm.chf W003 fm.kbg
This will take you a short walk further along the Ridgeway to the actual cache location. Because of the exposed nature of this part of the route it has only been possible to hide a 35mm film pot - however the fantastic views should make up for the size. Remember to bring a pen!!
