Friday the 13th in CHBSF Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

BeckiQuilt: Sorry this has taken me so long to respond - it’s NOT been a good 18 months. Son died, father died, husband had quadruple bypass surgery and major recovery with serious a fib issues and I’m currently dealing with breast cancer. Please archive the cache and as soon as I am physically able, I will try to get out and retrieve the rusted out container. Thank you!!

Geocache Description:

Out on a hike in the Charles H. Bronson State Forest on a lovely Friday the 13th and decided to drop an ammo box for others to try their luck in finding.

Several theories have been proposed about the origin of the Friday the 13th superstition. One theory states that it is a modern amalgamation of two older superstitions: that THIRTEEN is an unlucky number and that FRIDAY is an unlucky day.

In numerology, the number twelve is considered the number of completeness, as reflected in the twelve months of the year, twelve hours of the clock, twelve gods of Olympus, twelve tribes of Israel, twelve Apostles of Jesus, the 12 sucessors of Muhammad in Shia Islam, etc. whereas the number thirteen was considered irregular, transgressing this completeness. There is also a superstition, thought by some to derive from the Last Supper or a Norse myth, that having thirteen people seated at a table will result in the death of one of the diners.

Friday has been considered an unlucky day at least since the 14th Century's "The Canterbury Tales", and many other professions have regarded Friday as an unlucky day to undertake journeys, begin new projects or deploy releases in production. Black Friday has been associated with stock market crashes and other disasters since the 1800s.

One author, noting that references are all but nonexistent before 1907 but frequently seen thereafter, has argued that its popularity derives from the publication that year of Thomas W. Lawson's popular novel "Friday, the Thirteenth" in which an unscrupulous broker takes advantage of the superstition to create a Wall Street panic on a Friday the 13th.

But is there any REAL danger to the dreaded Friday the 13th?? To put it bluntly, NO. Studies have looked at whether you're at greater risk of getting into a car accident, experiencing complications during surgery, or being robbed. And for the most part, researchers have found that your risk is just the same on Friday the 13th as it is any other day.

There may even be an upside to Friday the 13th: a trend analysis by a web based travel agency found that airfares tend to be 12-14% LOWER on Friday the 13th than on other Fridays of the month. It was lucky for me - set out to find 10 caches and we FOUND every one of them.

So... pack up your rabbit's foot and a four leave clover, put a horse shoe in your pocket and hit the trail. Out here on the trail, there are no sidewalk cracks to have to worry about stepping on... it's smooth sailing/easy hiking all the way to the cache. GOOD LUCK!!!
