Swedish Mission Church Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

ROTSIP: No response from the owner.
This cache appears to be gone. As there has been no cache to find for months, and it seems unlikely that it will be replaced soon, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements.
If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email, quoting the GC number), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.
Thanks for the past fun.

Geocache Description:

In Oct 2001 Bertus and Carna Van Zyl purchased the Mission House now known as Mvana House with the vision to restore the building but also to continue the work that the Lord begun there so many years ago. The cache is purposely a magnetic micro so bring your own pen, the chances of muggles being around are slight but as usual be aware when retrieving and replacing the container.
Thanks to the Van Zyl’s for kindly providing permission to place a small cache on site.

Short History.
Swedish Free Church first came to South Africa as Swedish Alliance Mission (SAM) from Sweden by a young man at the age of 23 called Rev.Klas .Arvid Hjelm (1878-1964) was born province situated in the south of Sweden called Smaland just outside Jonkoping.
After being ordained as a Missionary, he decided to come and preach the word of God all the way from Sweden, Africa was still considered to be the Dark Continent at this stage in time.
On 11 November 1901 he set foot on African Soil in the Durban Harbour. After receiving a few lessons in Zulu by an American Missionary he later left to spread the Gospel
In 1905 after spending some four years in the Ekukhanyeni area, he decided to search for a more central and permanent site for his missionary endeavors. He then managed find suitable place in Piet Retief with enough ground for certain developments, which he purchased on behalf of the Swedish Alliance Mission.
The large two-story church building was erected on the mission ground in and dedicated to God in 1912. School classes were provided on the ground floor of the building and soon other buildings were erected as the missions activities grew and expanded.
Bedrooms were prepared for co-workers and people travelling to or from Swaziland and other mission areas, stables were added for missionaries traveling to and fro on their missionary duties as the Swedish Alliance Mission missionaries, concentrated their activities toward the east across the border into Swaziland, and Northeastward beyond Amsterdam all the way to Barberton.

Take your time to walk around and look at this more than 100 year old building situated in a quiet part of the town, while you experience the tranquility that that surrounds it as the breeze blows through the pine trees not too far off. Consider yourself lucky if there is somebody there and you are allowed inside.
