Geocache Description:

This puzzle cache will take you on a stroll (approx 3.5 miles) around the historic village of Scottsville, NY. Waypoints will point out various buildings and landmarks around the village as you collect answers to questions which will help you determine the final cache coordinates.

7/22/2014 - Cache final location has been relocated a second time. Please note that the final puzzle has been changed to reflect the new location. Please use the new puzzle in your final calculations. Cache container has also changed but is still considered a small. Thanks and Happy Hunting!

Welcome to Scottsville, New York!! My family has lived in this small, quiet community for many years. When we began geocaching in 2009, we noticed that even though there are many caches in the nearby parks, along the greenway and around the area, none of them really encouraged geocachers to come explore our little village. So I decided that when I finally created my first hide, I would focus my efforts to do just that.

When my husband and I go looking for caches, I am inspired by those that point out interesting bits of local history and bring us to places we didn’t know existed. I especially enjoy caches that involve a bit of puzzle solving. So with that in mind, I’ve created a puzzle cache that will take you on a leisurely stroll along the back streets around our historic village, pointing out several interesting buildings and points of interest along the way. The puzzle part comes in as you answer questions about these locations and use the letters in the answers to help you figure out where I actually hid the cache.

The posted coordinates are for the municipal parking lot located off Main Street in Scottsville. The stroll (which will take approx 3.5 miles as a loop from this parking lot) will take you to 16 locations/waypoints where you will be asked to answer questions. All of the answers will be easily seen on posted signs or by making simple observations at the waypoints. All of the stroll will be on even terrain along sidewalks, a short section of the greenway, and on quiet side roads. There is no need to walk onto private property or leave the sidewalks/trail to answer any of the questions (and definitely no need for bushwacking at any point on the route). When walking along Main Street, it is suggested you stick to the sidewalk on the North side of the street and only cross the street when you get to the waypoints as needed.

Once all of the questions have been answered, you will need to pull letters from your answers to determine the final coordinates for the actual cache and a hint to its location. To determine which letter to use, identify the Question by the letter given (A-P) and count each letter in the answer as noted. For example, if you needed to look for Q7 and the answer labeled ‘Q’ was “ T O W N O F W H E A T L A N D “, the letter identified would be ‘W’ (or the 7th letter in the answer).

Final Coordinates to the cache: N 43 01.xxx W 77 45.yyy where

xxx = A5 N6 I3 B6 H2 P1 M12 H8 L6 E7 P6 G9 O3 C3

yyy = D2 K5 J8 B3 A8 F7 M11 K7 G6 I11 O7 F10 J5

Hint – O12 N7 B8 M4 / D7 / J4 H6 I8 E10 P8 C1

The cache is a small container. Please bring your own pen/pencil. I hope you enjoy the experience as much as I enjoyed creating this cache.
