This cache is located near the North Gate entrance to Camp Shelby.

Camp Shelby Joint Forces Training Center (CSJFTC) is primarily located in portions of Perry and Forrest Counties with a small portion in Greene County, in south Mississippi. The training center was established in 1917 in support of mobilization during World War I and it has served almost continuously since then as a training site, not only for the Reserve Components of the Army, but also for the Active Components of the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force. The training site consists of a mix of State, Department of Defense, and U.S. Forest Service lands in the DeSoto National Forest. .

Encompassing more than 134,000 acres (525 square kilometers), Camp Shelby can support battalion level maneuver training, and has a wide range of training and logistical support facilities. It is a training ground for the M1 Abrams Tank, Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicles, and M109A6 Paladin Howitzers and home to the 177th Armored Brigade (Training Support). Camp Shelby serves as a training site for National Guardsmen and Reservists from throughout the country hosting as many as 100,000 personnel annually.

I was in the 1st Battalion, 155th Infantry Regiment "Mississippi Rifles" for 8 years. While I was in the National Guard, we probably spent 75% (+/-) of our time training here. When we got activated for Desert Storm we deployed from here. During Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm, Mississippi was the largest National Guard contributor to the war effort. This place has changed drastically since the first day I stepped foot on this facility. There were a lot of friends and memories made here.

If you have time go visit the museum that is on Camp Shelby now. It is genuinely nice and informative.

This cache is placed as a travel bug layover for servicemen and women and anyone else who loves this sport and wish to trade trackables.

Starting contents included several items donated by the Camp Shelby Army surplus store and included items for campers and hikers.

Please stop by and say "Hi!" to Mr. and Mrs. Gentry and take a look at their items, they have great items for every outdoor adventurer or military buff. You might even find a geocache container or two there.

If you truly like this cache "PLEASE" award it with a favorite point. Thanks.

Note:

Cache Shelby is NOT in the metal conexes beside the business, so please, no one need go near those, they are property of the business owner.

(Adopted from Savypony. Would like to give them a great big “THANK YOU” for allowing me to adopt this cache due to moving to NC.)
