Geocache Description:

This is placed at the David Hale Fanning Park in Jewett City.
You will need tweezers to remove the cache. Please place back exactly as you found it, as this can be a high muggle area.

David Hale Fanning was born at Jewett City, town of Griswold, Connecticut, August 4, 1830. At the age of sixteen, with his sister's gift of a pocket Bible which was then and ever his source of inspiration, he started out into the great world to seek his place with $2.50 in his pocket. After many years of learning trades and hard work, He came to become a pioneer in the American manufacture of womens corsets. Mr. Fanning was known for valuing the comfort, health and welfare of his employees. His plant was the largest in the entire world devoted solely to the manufacture of corsets, and in no other factory did the operatives labor under more comfortable or better sanitary conditions. His generosity did not end there. He was a large contibutor to the Slater Library, and built this Park, which was named after him, in 1912 in dedication to war vets.
