You are on the first part of the Erieau Marsh Trail. There is now a footbridge at the far end of the trail at the Lagoon Road.
This trail was opened in July of 2007, by the South Kent Trails Committee, and follows an abandoned railway line that is now owned by the Municipality of Chatham-Kent.
This rail line used to service the Lake Erie Coal Company’s unloading terminal in Erieau, at what is now the Erieau Marina.
The tracks will not be removed because that would weaken the dyke, upon which you will be walking. Those of you that are birders will enjoy this trail, as you will see many different species of birds at all times of the year. The cache itself is easily accessible from the trail.
Parking space is available at the start of the trail. Have fun and enjoy your walk. The trail can be very muddy at times and I have seen evidence of hunting.
