Geocache Description:

Westgate Park in Leura is still a lovely place -- very quiet and relatively free from rubbish. You could stop here on your visit to the Blue Mountains and have a family picnic. You'll seldom find anyone else using this park, except during the evenings just around Christmas time.

So why the name?

Well, just across Scott Avenue from GZ there's a very (locally) famous American-style Christmas display. If you visit here after dark in late December or early January you'll see it in all its glory. It's actually hard to miss at night during the Christmas season. Otherwise, at other times of the year, the little yard is nicely presented, with just a couple of pelicans, but isn't too outstanding.

I'm also impressed with Westgate Park because it's so quiet and clean. There's only a single picnic table on site, plus a couple of benches and a tap where you can get water. And you rarely actually see anyone visiting here!

But the little area does Leura proud. This is what the picturesque 'Upper Mountains' is all about.

Please, please don't even think of going over the black wire fence towards the railway tracks. It's not hidden there! Nor is the cache container hidden anywhere near the road. You -- and perhaps the geo-family -- can search for this one in complete safety. I doubt that you'll ever have any muggles around either.

Don't try to park on the relatively busy adjacent main street -- Scott Avenue -- but pull off on the Woodford Avenue extension, right next to Westgate Park. There's plenty of space to park there in peace and quiet, with no traffic at all. And GZ is less than 50 metres away . . .

Don't walk in the road. Leave the high, wire-mesh fence alone. You can find this one with your feet on the grass.

Hope you'll enjoy this rather unknown and picturesque little picnic spot in Leura!
