Reptiles

There are more than 8,000 species of reptiles. They live everywhere except Antarctica. Reptiles include turtles, snakes, crocodiles, and lizards. They can be as small - less than an inch - or large - over 15 feet. All reptiles have scales and are cold blooded (ectothermic) meaning their body temperature is connected by the environment. Most lay eggs, some have live babies.

Amphibians

There are more than 6,000 species of amphibians, including frogs, toads, salamanders, and newts. Many amphibians are in danger of being wiped out by a fungus called Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis (Bd).

For most amphibians, life begins in the water—the young have gills and no legs. They usually hatch from eggs laid in the water. They grow legs, lungs and change in other ways to live on land as adults. Amphibians, like reptiles are cold blooded.
