This geocache is located in Lacy Grove Cemetery located in Fremont County.
On October of 1846 Miles Gaylord's family arrived in the area of Lacy Grove. It was atime when a number of Pottawattamie Indians lived in the county and one of their villages, ruled by sub-chief Shawtee, was located nearby.
The name, Lacy Grove, came from Captain George Lacy who lived about 1792 to August 13, 1867. He was aveteran of the War of 1812. There is no record that any of his family is buried in the Lacy Grove Cemetary although some feel that a son, James E Lacy, who died April 25, 1856 after being shot during a land claim dispute in Nebraska Territory just might be.
A few interesting things:
-July 4, 1900 a tragic drowning of three girls in the Nishabotna River by Sidney. The 3 girls that drowned are buried at Lacy Grove. They were 16, 19, and 20 years old.
-There are rumors that William Jackson and James Orton are buried at Lacy Grove. They charged with killing of W.M. Holloway at his home about two miles from Plum Hollow. The two men were taken to the Sidney jail. About two hundred men, supposed to be from Scott township came into Sidney, they took possession of the town and over powered the sheriff. They then took possession of the two inmates and hung them in the timber west of town.
This cemetery has a lot of history and great views. Take a few moments to look around and take in the scenery. Enjoy the peace and tranquility!
