Geocache Description:

A cache for the 4WDers or walkers amongst us.

This cache is placed near the boom gate on the track up to Grey Mountain. This cache is for those with a 4WD that don't mind it getting a little dirty, or it is possible to walk to the cache.
There are stunning 360 degree views if you manage to walk the remaining distance to the top of Grey Mountain. There are also some towers and the GCA trig point up for grabs. Link below.

The trip in starts at the end of Van Morey Road at Margate. There is a cache here called "Snug Tiers" by March Brown. The boom gate should be open and take note of the sign to the right of the gate. It also states there is NO EXIT at the southern end of the track, so you may be driving all the way back to Margate.

The trip in will take about an hour depending on conditions on the day. There are a few puddles/lakes to negotiate and a couple of turns but the trip has been done in a Nissan XTrail and a 4WD van. At the puddles, it would be advisable to check depth and for unseen obstacles. I used a walkers pole on the big puddle and found the bottom hard, but conditions change and mud moves around. Waders would be handy!

The turns required are included as child waypoints. The first is a left turn at S43 04.470 E147 09.776, followed by a right at S43 05.359 E147 08.642. Follow the main track from here to the last turn at S43 05.857 E147 07.067. The cache is a short distance from here.

The alternative is to walk from the end of Cradoc Hill Road vicinity S43 06.524 E147 04.201. Old Saint reckons its 4.5croks (crow kilometres - straight line distance) to the trig from here and will take around 1hour to the cache. The trig is a further 20 minutes walk.

The cache is hidden under a log with a large rock placed beside to prevent some of the weather getting on the cache itself. Photo will be forthcoming.

On the day the cache was placed, the mountain was grey and very misty and we were able to drive out through the southern end but the gate may not always be open.
