Geocache Description:

You're looking for a lock box type contain near the bridge. You do not have to go near the bankings for this cache. It was originally an ammo box but someone took the ammo box and replaced it with a suitable, but un-cammoed container, and I've left it that way. Please keep it well hidden as the area is often a gathering spot for trail users.

This cache is a tribute to Hazen Carpenter whose efforts created this bridge and who is the driving force behind the Sanford-Springvale Rail Trail and this portion of ITS 89.

This is one of many caches I have hidden on this section of the old railroad bed. This section of the Springvale Rail Trail, but is very popular with four-wheelers/dirt bikers as well as dog walkers, bikers and the geo-horse. It's also part of the Interstate Trail System for snowmobiles. Unfortunately, new landowners at the Lebanon end of the trail have blocked its use past their property but as of July 22, there will be caches the whole length of this section of trail. There will be more caches released for Celebrate Sanford Trails IV Event on the 22nd.

Story of the original container: A friend who has cached with me and who was helping clean out a house saved me this ammo box. It held vintage first aid supplies, one of which became the container for my Snake Bite Kit cache. Three of the first aid items are included for trading, along with lots of other stuff including paddle balls for the kids. It's a mile from the road to this bridge which may be too long a hike for younger children, so parents and grandparents, please feel free to take home one to a young child until the supply runs out!
