The cache is NOT at the listed coordinates. You will have to take a small fraction of a Joureyman Wireman's exam to find the real coordinates.

NORTH - Conductor Size

Conductors come in many different sizes. The larger the diamater of the conductor, the higher ampacity rating it will have. Electricians need to properly install the right size conductor based on the current draw of the equipment it is supplying. Too big of a conductor is just fine and sometime warranted. But, too small and the wire gets to hot and usually melts the insulation causing bad things to happen.

Copper conductors are used more often, but Aluminum has its applications as well. To find the North coordinates, we are going to have to find out the proper wire size needed. To keep things very simple, we are not de-rating and we are not calculating for motor startup. This is straight up off of a chart, if you can find it. (you can).

A. 75 degrees C - In a Raceway (or conduit) - Copper wire - 100A

B. 60 degrees C - In Free Air - Copper wire - 630A (first digit of answer)

C. 75 degrees C - In a Raceway (or conduit) - Aluminum wire - 65A

D. 60 degrees C - In Free Air - Aluminum wire - 500A (first digit of answer)

You are only allowed to use up so much area inside a conduit for the conductors. The NEC does state what the maximum number of conductors can be pulled inside the conduit. Of course it depends on type of conduit, size of wire and type of insulation on that wire. For the purpose of this puzzle, all insulation used will be THHN. Try to find the maximum number of conductors allowed for the following:

E. 1 1/4 inch EMT (Electrical Metallic Tubing) - #1 AWG wire.

F. 2 inch Rigid Nonmetallic (PVC) Conduit, Schedule 40 - 350 kcmil

G. 3/4 inch Rigid Metallic Conduit - #6 AWG

H. 1/2 inch Flexible Metallic Conduit - #8 AWG


The location of this cache looks as if it could get pretty wet in the winter months. I choose it however because it looks like it is not being used. Please be carefull.
