How we take are freedom for granted these days. But let's not forget the sacrifice of those that have died for this freedom. You are at the Wandsworth and Wimbledon Memorial Garden.
The surrounding memorial garden and playing fields were acquired from Newlands Farm by the Wimbledon Common Conservators in 1922. A five-acre portion of this land was landscaped as a War Memorial Grove. The centre piece of this site is a monument created in granite and consisting of a 20 foot cross set on three tiers and mounted on a raised octagonal base. The monument is inscribed with the names of local men who gave their lives for their country in the Great War of 1914-1918. The memorial was officially dedicated on 15 July 1925 and the site later named after Mr Richardson Evans, who was instrumental in securing the land for the public.
The cache is not at this location, but you need to find the number of acres (x) that were originally acquired for the garden and playing fields.
Next imagine a gun salute, in honour of these brave men, from the base of the memorial. The cache is located at the landing site of the projectile according to the following flight details:
- Bearing = 294 degs
- Launch Angle = x degs (number of acres from memorial)
- Launch Speed = 61 m/s (ok, so it's not a very big gun!)
Assume that the ground is flat and ignore air resistance. If you don't want to solve the puzzle, keep walking on the correct bearing and you may find it!
Thanks to the 'BP Series- Splash' cache (GCNZE9) for the idea behind this cache, and to the Wimbledon Common Rangers for permission to place this cache.
Congratulations to MrAardvark for being the first to find.
