The Cowichan Valley Trail will take you from Duncan through Lake Cowichan and down past the Kinsol Trestle following former CN and E&N railway lines. With many access points and 8 trestles, it's a beautiful trail to walk, jog or bike. From the Island Spirit Team, we hope you enjoy your time in the Cowichan Valley.
All the Island Spirit Legacy Caches are within a 2 steps of the trail, unless otherwise noted. There is no need to bushwack or trample the vegetation.
Wild Strawberry
Yum! Wild Strawberries are a common sight in meadows, along trails, and near roadsides in British Columbia. The leaves of the plant are often sought after by deer and elk and the tiny strawberries themselves have been sought after by First Nations peoples for centuries for their strong flavor. Note: always check that the seeds are growing on the outside of the fruit to be sure that it is a wild strawberry before you eat it as there are similar-looking plants in BC that are poisonous.
“…You've been warned, and I will not be blamed, if your Wild Strawberries cannot be tamed.”
-Shel Silverstein Where the Sidewalk Ends
