Home Run Derby-Wiffle Ball Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Tim10966: One of my first Derby hides and one of my favorites. Surprised to confirm that it is indeed missing. I thought this one would last a while. Frees up a spot for next season though!

Geocache Description:

Inspired by Düg's annual baseball series, I've created a simple geocaching home run derby. How many home runs can you belt out of the park this season?

I'll be releasing a new cache every couple weeks. After it's published, you will have roughly a week to find it and select a baseball player (I will post specific dates and deadlines with each cache). This is optional of course and as long as you find the container you can log your success for all fellow geocachers to see.

Name one player and include his name in your log. The number of home runs he hits the following week is your score (don't worry, I'll handle all the number crunching).

The "catch" is every player must be unique, so FTF has choice of any player, even any Padre sluggers.

Any geocachers making the find through Sunday, April 29th are eligible and the scoring will occur from Monday, April 30th through Sunday, May 6th.

The cache is located a step or two off the basepaths in a little park area off the corner of Melrose and Palomar Airport Road. I actually parked off Loker Avenue E at the end of the building lot facing Melrose. No valet parking, but it's free.

The container is almost regular sized. Please rehide so it's not visible to any baserunners on the path. It's a nice area to play wiffle ball too and test how well you can make that ball curve.

I remember playing tons of wiffle ball as a kid. In fact, whenever I recall monster home runs, I don't think of Mickey Mantle or Mark McGwire. I always remember my brother John's prodigous wiffle blast. For us, a home run was across the street to the sidewalk. He hit one that not only reached the sidewalk, but continued on to the neighbor's uphill driveway and landed on the roof! Nobody else ever came close to that impressive feat.

Standings will be updated periodically. Can anyone catch Düg? Good luck!
