Geocache Description:

A Riesling Trail

"Pedal-Power-Trail" Cache

The Riesling Trail is a 35 km rail trail designed for cyclists and walkers.

The main trail runs from Clare to Auburn, with a recent northern extension to Barinia. The trail is mostly flat, avoids main roads and takes you through vineyards, rolling farmland and small townships.

This cache is one of a planned "pedal-power-trail" of caches designed to encourage cachers to cycle the entire length of the trail. We plan to progressively place caches along the trail at points of interest and picturesque spots. Ultimately, the easiest way to find all of the caches will be by bike - many of the caches are some distance from access roads and hence driving to the caches will not be an easy option.
Information on the Riesling Trail is available here: Trails SA

Horrocks Tree: The gnarled, 400 year old tree that you can see here was the place that John Horrocks first camped when he arrived in the area. Irises that bloom around the base are said to be from bulbs that Horrocks bought over from England.
