4.23. Unarchiving a Geocache

The archiving of a geocache is intended to be a permanent status. That is why only community volunteer reviewers and Geocaching HQ staff have the capability to unarchive it. This is done only in rare circumstances and only if it meets the current Geocache Listing Guidelines.

If a geocache is archived by a reviewer or staff for lack of maintenance it will not be unarchived.

Geocache Description:

Having come into existance as the lone construction camp for the new transcontinental Ghan route today Pimba is the crossroads between the only highway from Port Augusta to Alice Springs and the highway leading to Woomera, Roxby Downs and Andamooka.

It seemed to make sense to leave a cache for TB / GC exchange here.

>>> THIS CACHE IS UP FOR ADOPTION AS I DO NOT LONGER LIVE IN THE AREA AND CAN'T MAINTAIN IT. PLEASE CONTACT ME IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN CACHE ADOPTION.

The nearby Stuart Highway is Australia's only continental North-South highway connection.

It started in the 1870ies as a maintenance track for the telegraph line between South Australia and the Northern territories and was subsequently upgraded. Sealing of the Stuart Highway was completed in 1987.

Today the Stuart Highway is not only a highway but alongside it runs a major communications line including fibreoptic cables and other important infrastructure.

Also crossing in Pimba is the Ghan railroad, Australia's only north-south continental railway connection that replaced the famous Old Ghan in 1980.

Spud's Roadhouse has been there from the beginning of construction works and has seen the building of Woomera township and its eventual decease as well as the mining boom hitting Roxby Downs, about 90km from Pimba.

Visit Spud's for a true outback dining experience or just a cold beer. The roadhouse is well worth seeing with its main room featuring memorabilia of the Woomera army base and a vast collection of Australian and overseas licence plates.
