Geocache Description:

The 'secret spinney' where this small cache in hidden is in South West part of Verulamium Park. Look for one of the larger spinneys that borders the open spaces of the cricket pitches. Access is easy from multiple directions. The parking area closest to the cache is King Harry Lane.

NOTE - please ensure that this cache is will covered and properly hidden from view!

I've always thought there is something mysterious about spinneys (a small group of trees). They're not big enough to properly be called 'woods' so seem to be rarely visited. This is the second geocache in the 'secret spinney' series and (at time of writing) the first geocache hidden inside Verulamium Park itself.

Verulamium Park is a well known St Albans attraction frequented by many, but the area where this cache is hidden is a little less well known. This is an interesting area in the South West part of the park where the wide open spaces of close-cut grass give way to a wilder area of taller grasses and a series of spinneys that butt up against the wooded ridge that harbours the old Roman City wall of St Albans. Look for one of the larger spinneys that borders the open spaces of the cricket pitches.

As this cache is in a park, access is well signed from multiple directions. The parking area closest to the cache is King Harry Lane.

When you've found it, please can you make sure that the cache properly hidden again as this area is well frequented, despite being a spinney. Take particular care with re-hiding in winter as vegetation dies back and the cache is more exposed to casual passers by. It should not be visible to casual glances, so cover lightly with leaves / bark if necessary.

Also - note that this area (and the whole of the park it seems) can get quite muddy in wet weather, so watch out!

Enjoy!

Please note - this cache is placed in Verulamium Park with the kind permission of St Albans City & District Council.
