This cache sits aside the Black Marsh Trail in North Point State Park just west of the marsh.
From the designated parking, you will eventually find 2 trails that parallel one another. One trail has nice gravel paving (it is the old trolley rail bed), and the other is a more natural dirt path. I suggest you stick to the dirt trail as it makes for much easier access to the cache. If you want to keep going after you find the cache, the two trails merge just a bit farther along at the edge of the marsh.
This cache is in a designated wildlands area of the park, so please use your "leave no trace" skills.
As I mentioned, the gravel trail was part of the rail bed for the Bay Shore Shuttle trolley that carried many a pleasure seeker from the city out to the Bay Shore Amusement Park, which operated in the first half of the 20th century on the shore south of here.
There is a modest entrance fee to the park. Visit the
DNR website for current fees and park rules.
