Geocache Description:

Mandurah's Significant Trees

Quite by accident we found a register maintained by Mandurah City Council of significant trees in the area. Some of these trees are icons around Mandurah, others are unique examples of their species, and others are just magnificent trees, but all are worth taking a look at.
We hope you enjoy finding these natural wonders.

Medicinal Marri

This tree is of strong significance to Mandurah's indigenous community. The thick, red bleeding gum or "kina" of this tree was used by local Aboriginals for medicinal purposes.  The moist gum was drizzled onto fresh wounds to slow bleeding or mixed with water to create a mouthwash or disinfectant solution.  The dried, powdered gum was also used for the tanning of kangaroo skins.
