Tucked in the back corner of Apollo Park a hard-working group of volunteers have established a butterfly garden - it's even in the shape of a butterfly.

Locals had noticed how Monarch butterflies spent winter in the large willow trees in Apollo Park. From here the idea of creating a butterfly park was developed. Native shrubs, grasses and swan plants have been planted to attract more monarchs as well as New Zealand's native butterflies such as the red admiral, yellow admiral, copper and little blue butterflies.
This community project has been supported by the Palmerston North City Council and other sponsors, and is still a work in progress.
Bring the family - there is a children's playground nearby as well.
The camo cache container contains a log book, please bring your own pen. There is no room for trades. When logging your find please describe any butterfly sightings you have made, thanks!
