Apison Strong - A Resilient Community


Tornado warnings sounded for Apison, Tenn. on April 27, 2011 shortly after 8:00 p.m.

For many, the warning rang a familiar tone as the southeast was getting pummeled by an unprecedented tornado outbreak.

Little did Apison know, this warning was not like the others. Something big was coming, and it would rapidly change the town forever.

Less than a mile from this geocache location is where an EF-4 tornado carved a trail 800-yards wide, destroying everything in its path and killing fifteen people.

This geocache serves as a memorial to a tragedy that will resound in the memories of not only Apison community residents, but millions of people all over the southeast United States.
Family members gather on Sept. 23, 2012 to dedicate the tornado memorial site in honor of loved ones who died during the April, 2011 tornado outbreak.
REMARKABLE Survival Story


(Updated July 2016): When hidden, the original container for this cache was the EXACT magnetic keyholder that was previously hidden at The Line in the Monster County (GC14964). Despite taking a direct hit from the massive twister on April 27, the cache was still intact.

Because of the disaster zone at the original location, I had to archive that cache. However, I was able to move it to this memorial. Unfortunately, a drunk driver plowed down the memorial, taking the cache container with it. The cache you seek is now a hanging bison.
