Geocache Description:

The Western Maryland Railway was an American Class I railroad which operated in Maryland, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania. It was primarily a coal hauling and freight railroad, with a small passenger train operation. The WM became part of the Chessie System in 1973 and ceased operating its lines in 1983 when it was merged into the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. The B&O itself was then merged into C&O on August 31, 1987 before the C&O merged with the Seaboard System Railroad to legally form CSX Transportation on September 2, 1987.

Western Maryland Rail Way, Maryland Junctions Shops C 1.8

A Coaling Station, Round House with Engine shops, Repair facilities, Offices and a Commissary were all located at Maryland Junction Shops
A large complex in its heyday reduced to two buildings and alot of unused land.

A bird's-eye view of the Maryland Jct. shops and engine house in the 1950's. Imagine living in one of those homes behind MY Tower, guess you would either love or hate it. Notice the WM 4-8-2 Potomac's in the roundhouse stored waiting to be leased to the B&O. That lease never came, so they were scrapped. Looks like to Witcomb diesels also parked next to the roundhouse. (thanks to Warren Hart for photo)

The Regular cache you seek has been placed near the WM road crossing at the B164.3. This track and two others, once lead to Maryland Jct. and then east to Hagerstown.

Just a short walk away are the two building that have survived over the years. The commissary and Engine shop. Remnants of the Roundhouse and turntable can be found as concrete structures still in the ground.

Cache stocked with SWAG, Log sheets and a writing Utensil. Please rehide as good or better than found to prevent Muggling.

Congratulations to par72 for the FTF !!!
