This area was lucky enough to have it's own cafe that was popular for decades. It had the "best view in Dunedin", built in the 1920's using material sourced from the South Seas Exhibition.
Trade was busiest at the weekends when many buses would call in as they did a round trip of the Peninsula. Macandrew Bay people would walk up to the Cage as a special treat. The Cafe continued as a bakery for a short time, then it was left derelict before being converted into a private residence in the 1960's, which it remains today (#601).
