Geocache Description:

This cache is placed to honor American statesman, humorist, inventor, printer Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790).

What couldn't--and didn't--Benjamin Franklin do? Here are some interesting facts about Franklin:

  • Franklin's mother Abiah came from the Folger family. One of their descendants was to later found the Folgers Coffee Company.
  • Franklin witnessed the first manned balloon flight in France.
  • Franklin conceived the idea of daylight savings.
  • Some of Franklin's inventions include: lightning rod, Franklin's stove, bifocal glasses and the urinary catheter. He did not like patenting inventions. He thought that his inventions gave him an opportunity to serve the society.
  • Franklin is the first most common name for cities incorporated in the United States. Clinton and Washinton follow.
