When we first arrived in the area in the 1990's, this part of Gordon Highway was still a two-lane road through the woods. Now there is less and less woods. A subdivision is going in right next to this cache. The other day, the woods across from Fort Gordon's Gate 2 were bulldozed flat to make room for more construction.
We understand progress and we are happy to welcome new people to Augusta. And we know they need somewhere to live. At the same time, it is sad to see this country road disappearing behind houses and stores.
This cache is placed in a small grove of woods, while it is still standing. Let's hope it stands for a long while.
