Geocache Description:

In December of 2005, the Upper Taum Sauk Reservoir failed, sending 1.5 billion gallons of water rushing down the mountain into Johnson's Shut-Ins State Park. The power of the water, which was moving at 150,000 cubic feet per second, scraped away trees, soil and layers of rock, leaving this impressive scour channel. Geologists from all over the world have flocked to this site to see millions of years of Earth's history that has never been seen before. One spot near this cache is called the unconformity. In this spot, there is 1 billion years of rock that is missing. What happened to the rock? It is a mystery that geologists continue to to solve to this day.

The best way to reach this cache is to take the Scour trail, located off of Highway N just north of the park entrance. When the trail forks, you may go either direction, as the trail is a loop. There is an overlook located down the path of each fork. The trail continues past those overlooks and down into the scour. Take the path into the scour to find the cache. Cache is located off the trail and in a very rocky location-use caution when walking on the loose rocks and small boulders.
