I have placed another series of caches in the Hemi Matenga Scenic Reserve.
This cache is about 3.8km walk from the parking coordinates.
However it is a tough walk with the first 2.1km uphill (all the way) walk although the track is fairly well formed, then becomes a walk along the top of the ridgeline along a tramping track - Te Au Route.
There is a turn off you need to take near where the track starts to go down to the Huia Street exit. Turn off just by a small sign marked: Main Track (pointing to Huia Street exit)
It is not well marked as a tramping track and is marked as a bait line. There are pink track markers, some blue track markers and also blue string markers at ground level.
This is an old tramping track that goes north to the old pine forest (recently cut down) at Peka Peka. The cache is along this track and although not well used any more is quite well marked and used by local tramping clubs
You will need to walk back and down the Huia street exit. This track comes out at the forest but it is a very long walk down to the closest road.
Can be a little muddy after any rain.
Take the turnoff after about 300m marked: Parata Track - Lookout 1.7km/45min. Keep following this track which forms a loop track with an exit at Huia Street. Note the track part down to Huia Street is very steep and can be slippery.
I have put more caches along the ridge and also up from the Huia Street entrance.
