Open to everyone!
The 15-minute World Wide Flash Mob Caching Event

Hosted by raven429

Summary: The Basic Idea:

A "Flash Mob" Gathering of Geocachers. Only 15 minutes long! You MUST be present DURING this time to claim the event.

Please BYOP! (Bring your own pen)

The World Wide Flash Mob Event: Dozens of events all around the world, coordinated to happen at the same time to bring together geocachers and introduce others (newbies) to geocaching.

You're heard of MEGA-EVENTS? This is quite the opposite in a variety of ways. FLASH MOBS have gathered for other reasons. Come be part of this historic event!

The event will last EXACTLY 15 minutes, not one second longer.

The event will begin precisely at 1:00 pm EST on June 9th, 2012. The event will be held at Livonia Sears (7 mile & Middlebelt). This is in an open public space. The event will be highly organized and facilitated by volunteers. A minute by minute itinerary will be posted. We will also have printed copies of this ultra-precise itinerary distributed at the event.

The Plan:

Theme: Mardi Gras - wear your favorite beads, hat, feathers, any loud colors, etc. You should look like you were headed to Mardi Gras but ended up here.

At exactly 1:00pm (as determined by the GPS clock) we will place a bucket full of nice, new swag at the coordinates. At this point, all geocachers will converge, seeming to come out of"nowhere". (grin)

One volunteer will hand out "log sheets" / raffle entries (same sheet). Participants will sign the log sheets (which will later be used for raffle), and drop them in a designated collection box. Bring a pen. Participants may trade swag via the swagbucket at any time. We encourage you to bring nice swag to trade.

If any muggles are curious about the event we will have a volunteer hand out fliers that explain geocaching.

At 1:02, we will hand out the event "meal".

At 1:05, we will take a group photo.

At 1:12, we will call out the raffle winners.

At precisely 1:15 the bucket, and the log sheets will be packed up and sealed away. The event area will be vacated without a trace!!! Events that happen after 1:15:01 do not count as part of THIS event.

Tell your friends and help promote the event!

Suggestion: COME EARLY TO FIND PARKING. Try to park a little bit away from GZ!

Note: Although participants are welcome to get together after the event, the event will officially be over at 1:15. Afterwards, at the meeting, participants may chat, meet, eat and plan for a day of caching!!!

I'm sure there will be several muggles nearby who will wonder "What did I just see? What just happened?" (That's part of the fun!)

The WWFM idea was started in 2007 after 2 cachers attended a mega-event. It was meant to be a fun “opposite” of a mega-event: all the cool aspects of a geocaching event, crammed into 15 minutes of excitement. An added dimension is represented by the letters "WW" - World Wide - these events occur across the planet on the same day at (mostly) the same time! These caching events are intended to bring geocachers together in a creative way, as well as introduce others (newbies) to the hobby.

Check out the History of the Geocaching WWFM events.

Be sure to submit your "attended" log within 2 weeks of the event, in order to receive a special Geocaching.com WWFM IX SOUVENIR. [Please NOTE: we are working toward a souvenir, but it is not yet guaranteed]
