Geocache Description:

Nildesperandum is a magical place yet so close to Canberra. An old homestead at the northern end of Tidbinbilla. Beautifully rebuild after the 2003 fires it invites to explore the homesteads and historic remains around it.
Back in the 19th century people use the term Nildesperandum not in its literal translation (aka cache name) but as "nothing lost" or "give this a shot".

{Old: Walk in (walk 19) less than 4 km from the Adventure Playground} [update 2023: This is Walk 22 on this map) now, with the new enclosure you have to walk longer, a 13km return return walk to get that] coffee or meal on the old 'Canberra' stove and a look around the history of the place, or even stay over night in the basic homestead (in which case you can drive in with your 4WD. You find more info on the Tidbinbilla website). Either way it will be quite an experience!

If you have not been to this beautiful place this cache will hopefully give you an additional reason to come here (in addition to TE's nearby cache from 2009 GC1V862). If you have been here already it might give you a reason to return, to see how the completed homestead looks like and visit it in the currently green surroundings.
Tankengine's cache takes you to one of the historic artifacts on the property, this multi tries to complement TE's cache and takes you to two other hidden historic sites of the homestead.
At the starting coordinates S 35° 25.360 E 148° 55.269 you will find the old Camellia Garden. When you are parallel to the starting coordinates on the road you will find a small trail leading you over a small river to the garden.
The garden was first established at the Hurdle Creek side in 1931 as a vegetable garden, it was converted in 1975 by Phillip Gilmour to commercially grow Camellias, Rhododendrons and Azaleas. By 1985 there were 600 camellias growing here. In 1988 when the Commonwealth resumed to entire property they payed a separate $16k to sell the camellias through the Yarralumla Nursery. The 2003 bush fire destroyed most of the gardens plants but they have come back a bit in recent years.
Answer the following questions:

A= How many thick (round) fence posts in the entire garden fence -2
B= How many doors in the enclosure +3
C= How many grown trees are inside the garden enclosure +2
D= The number of iron fence posts (not including the bigger round posts, but only the thin standard posts) that are in the garden fence -30

Then track back to the road and once parallel to the coordinates of WP2 cut over from the road to the old Swimming Pool at S 35° 25.384 E 148° 55.286.
The Swimming pool was build by the Gilmour Family in 1950 and upgraded from a wood construction to probably a concrete struckture in 1960.
Note the following:

E= The top of the pool wall is broken in how many place/ or equivalently how high in meters is the pool wall roughly at its highest point (both should give you the same number = E)
F= Number of metal poles sticking out the front of the pool wall/ or equivalently how many larger bolders are part of the pool wall (both should give you the same number = F)

Now proceed to the final coordinates at:
S 35° 25.ABC E 148° 55.DEF
Once at GZ please please approach from the north side that makes it easier to retrieve and replace. Please rehide well.

FTF: Tankengine & mtbikeroz. Congratulations on the fast find!
