Kakadu Rockhole Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

bubblensqueak: Unable to get back to this location to do maintenance. Sadly we have to archive the cache which means this secluded little swimming hole will be just that as without the cache few people even know this place exists. Thanks to all those that took the time to log DNF.

Geocache Description:

This cache was actually placed during the Easter long weekend when we decided to go and get some of those far flung caches in Kakadu National Park. Unfortunately it was still to soon after the wet season and most of the roads off the Kakadu and Arnhem highways were still closed so that made us think it would be nice to have some more caches in this beautiful National Park that were accessable all year round and thus Kakadu Rockhole was born.

The cache site is in an area that is not mentioned on any tourist maps or brochures. The only way you're going to find this place is by word of mouth or exploration and now by Geocaching. There is a very nice waterfall and pool near GZ but please be aware of the inherant dangers of this beautiful natural location. The access is via a track that I would recommend be only negotiated by 4wd vehicles if you want to drive as close as possible otherwise you can either park alongside the bitumen, as there is room to pull off and do so or you can drive a 2wd vehicle a little ways along the track before it gets really ruggeded. Please remember that this could be a little more adventures in the wet. Once you've parked your 2wd it is around a 10 minute walk along the access road (track) into where there is a couple of picnic tables and a wood fired bar b q. The signs say beware of crocs but as this is a clear fast moving very small water course I can't imagine there would be any snapping handbags here and as we have seen many people swimming here I have come to the conclusion that it is safe to do so.
The cache container is a regular sized plastic screw top container which has plenty of room for swaps or trackables.
