The Witklip plantation is situated approximately 10km north of White River on the White River – Sabie road, and surrounds the Witklip dam. The total area of the plantation is 6 811ha. Witklip Dam was established in 1969.
Witklip (white rock) got its name from the white rocks in this area which is rich in Kaolin. This area is also the origin of the Witrivier and Blinkwaterspruit. The water of these rivers use to have a white colour from the kaolin and when a town was established down the confluence of these rivers it was aptly called Witrivier/White River.
