Lake Wilderness - One of Maple Valley's true gems. It is also the home of the Fishing Derby, held usually the last weekend in April, this year, 2013, the 27th and 28th was opening day.
Lake Wilderness had a lodge, children's play area with play structures, walking paths, 2 tennis courts, baseball field, boat launch (combustible engines prohibited), fishing, swimming, picnic tables and barbecues, and restrooms. Not to mention a gorgeous arboretum too.
There will be over 100 boats out on the lake after midnight to celebrate the opening day of the fishing season, it is also the only night of the year you can pitch a tent and sleep in the park. ( my tent was less than 50 yards away from ground zero!)
I have spent many many hours enjoying this lovely park over the past 16 years, I hope you can come on out and enjoy it too!
Just a follow-up on the Derby; Fun was had by all!
Easily over 120 boats out on the water and close to 200 tents. We caught six and had a wonderful time!
