La seconda guerra mondiale ha lasciato molti segni nella città di Bologna. I graffiti ne sono un esempio: la maggior parte della popolazione probabilmente ne vede qualcuno tutti i giorni, ignorandone l'importante significato storico.
Si tratta di veri e propri graffiti, realizzati con vernici dai colori contrastanti allo scopo di fornire semplici e fondamentali informazioni prima, durante e dopo le incursioni aeree.
I più semplici sono costituiti da una lettera e una freccia, i più complessi contengono anche indirizzi e numeri di telefono di emergenza.
Questa è la lista delle indicazioni più comuni:
- R: Rifugio, la freccia indica l'accesso del locale in cui ripararsi durante i bombardamenti.
- V: Prese di Ventilazione, la freccia indica le prese d'aria dei rifugi: sono molto importanti, poiché le aperture dovevano essere liberate dalle eventuali macerie per evitare che i rifugiati morissero asfissiati.
- US: Uscita di Sicurezza, la freccia indica la via di fuga principale.
- I: Idrante, indica una presa d'acqua per i pompieri.
- P: Pozzo, indica un pozzo a cui i pompieri possono attingere acqua.
- C: Cisterna, ha la stessa funzione di un pozzo.
Per le strade si possono anche trovare le indicazioni "Rifugio" indicanti l'indirizzo del rifugio più vicino (come la foto di sotto).
Nell'immediato dopoguerra molte di queste indicazioni scomparvero, sia per ristrutturazioni sia cancellate volontariamente dalla popolazione nel tentativo di dimenticare i terribili ridordi che suscitavano.
Ad oggi si contano più di 100 graffiti sparsi nella città in vari stati di conservazione; alcuni sono quasi invisibili, altri invece sono stati fortunatamente restaurati e/o protetti. Purtroppo ogni tanto qualche graffito sparisce per via di ritinteggiamenti e ristrutturazioni.
Lo scopo di questo multicache è portarvi a scoprire i graffiti più comuni e meglio conservati della città, invitandovi anche ad aprire gli occhi e scoprirne altri. Tutti gli stage intermedi sono virtuali e portano a vedere dei graffiti.

Siete invece invitati a scoprire gli altri graffiti della città. Questo multicache è propedeutico a molti altri cache del centro cittadino. La difficoltà è tutta nel trovare i posti giusti, cosa resa difficoltosa dalla scarsa ricezione gps. Tenetene sempre conto.

The Second World War left many signs in the city of Bologna. A good example of these are “war graffiti”: most residents probably see at least one of these every day, ignoring their important historical significance. These are real, original graffiti created during WW2 with contrasting colors with the objective of providing simple and effective information before, during and after air raids.
The simplest ones consist of a letter and an arrow, the most complex ones also contain addresses and emergency telephone numbers.
This is the list of the most common graffiti:
- R: Refuge, the arrow indicates the access to a room that offered good shelter during the bombing.
- V: Ventilation inlets, the arrow indicates the air inlets of the shelters: these are very important, because the openings had to be freed from possible debris to prevent the refugees from dying due to asphyxia.
- US: Safety Exit, the arrow indicates the safest escape route.
- I: Hydrant, indicates the location of the nearest hydrant for firefighters.
- P: Well, indicates a well at which firefighters can draw water.
- C: Water tank, has the same function of a well.
Along some walls you can also find the sign "Rifugio" along with the address of the nearest shelter (as the photo above). In the immediate post-war period, many of these indications disappeared, either for restructuring, or voluntarily erased by the residents in an attempt to forget the terrible memories of the war that these graffiti brought back to them.
To date there are more than 100 graffiti scattered throughout the city in various states of conservation; some are almost invisible, while others have been fortunately restored and/or protected. Occasionally some graffiti disappears because of repainting and restructuring.
The purpose of this multi is to let you discover the most common and best-preserved war graffiti in the city, inviting you to open your eyes and discover many others. All intermediate stages are virtual and lead to graffiti.
I ask you not to insert photos of graffiti at the various geocache stages.
You are still welcome to post pictures of graffiti that are not part of virtual stages.This multi will bring you close to many other caches in the city center. The difficulty is all in finding the right places, often made difficult by poor GPS reception. Always keep this in mind.
