Geocache Description:

The JaxParks Challenge

Since Geocaching and parks kind of go hand in hand, The City of Jacksonville, The Cache Station and The Friends of JaxParks would like to welcome you to The JaxParks Challenge.

There has been 34 caches hidden just for this purpose. Inside each one is a special code word that you will need to record for verification of visiting the cache.

For all those committed to completing the challenge, there will be a special trackable Geocoin.

Upon completion of the Parks Challenge you will email The JaxParks Rep with the list of code words that you retrieved from the Geocaches.

About the Park

Jacksonville-Baldwin Rail Trail:

Once a part of the CSX railway line, the Jacksonville-Baldwin Rail Trail will be a thoroughfare for hikers, bikers, and equestrians when complete. This unique park provides a 14.5-mile greenway between Imeson Road and County Road 121, just past the town of Baldwin.

The trail system, when completed, will include three separate paths: a multi-use asphalt trail for walking, jogging, or in-line skating; a mountain bike trail; and a trail for horseback riding. The Camp Milton Historic preserve will serve as the halfway marker for the trail. The 14.5 mile multi-use path is completed, and the mountain bike trail and equestrian trail are currently under construction. Along the greenway, you'll see a diversity of natural habitats, including pine flatwoods, wetlands, and hardwood uplands. These areas attract a variety of wildlife such as songbirds, hawks, wild turkey, and white-tailed deer. The dense canopy that covers most of the trail provides shade on a sunny day and, in certain locations, even gives the illusion of traveling in a tunnel. Several rest areas with benches are provided along the route.
