Sanctuary gates
The gates indicate the spot where, on 19 November 1938, the inhabitants of the Weenen area established a bird sanctuary as their contribution to the 1938 Voortrekker Centenary celebrations. In so doing, they ensured the conservation of this beautiful area of the reserve and the retention of a piece of unspoilt nature for the benefit and enjoyment of future generations.
The cache is at the base of a cabbage tree and a Euphorbia tree. Near the one way sign.
This is another wonderful picnic spot so take time out and enjoy a snack.
