A 15 minute geocaching event.
Geocachers in Hampton Roads have organized and attended several flash mobs over the years, and I believe it is time for another one. Join us on World Wide Flash Mob Day #9 at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront for a Hokey Pokey hoe-down. The event begins at 1:00 PM and willl end precisely at 1:15 PM.
The event will proceed as follows:
At 1:00 PM EST, I will stand in front of the King Neptune statue and will begin the Hokey Pokey by putting my "right arm in". When I have gone through the first chorus, I will look dejected and ask if anyone wants to join me. At this time, three or four more people will repeat the "right arm"
I would like to have 10 or more people join me when we put in the left arm. And everyone else can join in at the right leg, continuing through left leg, head, whole body...and then a rousing repeat of whole body. Just remember that part of the fun is pretending like you are not a part of the flash mob until it is your turn, and surprise other onlookers by suddenly jumping into the dance. Also, spread out along the boardwalk and toward Atlantic Avenue so that we cover a large space.
At the end of the song, have your cache name pre-signed and ready to drop into an ammo can (whether you participated or not, you need to drop in your name to claim a Smiley for the event) . We will then draw from the ammo can for very quick prizes.
At 1:15, the event is over. You can then spend the afternoon finding all the wonderful caches along the boardwalk or elsewhere in Virginia Beach.
I need the following volunteers:
Two volunteers to gather all those signatures.
Two volunteers to pass out the signature Flash Mob snack item, Hershey's Kisses.
A volunteer to quickly hand out the prizes.
Volunteers to take photos and videos, to immortalize our silliness.
I am asking for those who participate in the Hokey Pokey to wear anything geocaching related, especially your Tees from the September event. A nice display of GPSrs around the neck would be nice, too, but remember to keep them hidden until we begin at 1:00. Please record in your Will Attend log the number of participants in your group, or if you are just an observer.
The night before the event, I will notify everyone by e-mail what appendage to jump in on. but if I get confused, feel free to jump in at any time, especially at the right leg. I have not yet decided whether to have a pre-event meeting at 12:30 before the event, so stay tuned to this page for more information.
