Your Alibi Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Bristracker: After receiving a message that the cache was missing I checked today and it has completely gone. looks like there's been a lot of ground trampled nearby. Another cacher has expressed interest in hiding a cache nearby so I will archive this one and leave the way clear for someone else to explore.

Geocache Description:

Small plastic box placed in park, near creek. Labelled with geocaching sticker.

The first in a series of caches planned for Law Week 2012 which runs from Monday 7 May 2012.

Alibi is a type of evidence. An accused person defends a criminal charge by showing she was somewhere else when the crime was committed. It is really about "place", so she can show she was not at the place where the crime happened. It has come to be accepted as a word for 'excuse' or explanation as to why she could not have been the perpetrator of the crime (or late homework or not putting out the garbage), but that was not the original meaning.

If you are caught by muggles when out geocaching you will sometimes need an excuse for playing with the little plastic boxes. What will you say if challenged? Can you explain yourself? What will be your alibi? The best one we heard recently was "bird identification". Better think up your own and have it ready. If you face a trial in court, you have to give notice of any alibi evidence in advance, you cannot produce your alibi at the last minute. Fortunately geocachers are very good at thinking up a good excuse on the spur of the moment. Just as well.

There is cleared ground to within about 1-2 metres around the cache. If you have young ones with you they will need to be watched, or warned, because there is a creek running below the higher ground.

Unregistered geocoin for the first to think up a good alibi. Turned out FTF was shared by Aussie Liahona and saintsmadhouse. This cache received good early support from local cachers.
