An Historic Superstar Multi-Cache

This cache is temporarily unavailable.

Nighthawk700: As DudleyGrunt mentioned, the museum is undergoing renovations, and access is extremely limited. You can't get to the first stage of the cache. I will try to get in touch with the park services to see how long the renovation is expected to be, and figure out if I can keep the cache disabled that long, or I'll need to archive.

Geocache Description:

This well-hidden park is home to a great piece of Maryland history. This multi will lead you through a small piece of the impressive life of Benjamin Banneker, a free African American astronomer, farmer, almanac author, mathematician and surveyor. There is a museum on site that is open on some days, so if it is open when you visit, enjoy learning more about this fascinating man and his life here in Maryland. The park is open daily from sun-up to sun-down. Please respect posted park hours as well as park property while visiting.

Stage 1:

Count the number of letters here, subtract from that the number of heavenly bodies surrounding them. Let this number be X. To your lattitude, add X*2, to your longitude, simply add X.

Stage 2:
Note the number of years from his almanac publication until his death. Let this number be Y.  Z = Y + X. To your lattitude add Z, to your longitude, add Z + 3.

Stage 3:
Note the number of farm implements pictured here. Let this number be V. Note the difference in acreage between Stout and Timber Point. Let this number be W. From your lattitude, subtract (W - V). To your longitude, add V.

Stage 4:
Note the maximum. Let this number be S. Note the number of characters here, including punctuation. Let this number be T. Note the number of vertical planks in the door. Let this number be U. To your lattitude, add S. To your longitude, subtract (T + U).

This will lead you to your final stage. Please be discreet and respectful of the area, be kind to the container, and replace as found. Hopefully you enjoyed your time in this little hidden bit of history and learned something along the way!
