Saskatoon is the largest city in Saskatchewan located on the South Saskatchewan River. Statistics Canada estimated Saskatoon's census metropolitan area population as 272, 000 as of July 1, 2011. Between 2006 and 2011, the population of the City of Saskatoon increased from 202,408 to 222, 189, an increase of 9.8%, compared to an increase of 6.7% for Saskatchewan and 5.9% for Canada.
In comparison, based on current available information to myself (not a complete list due to various limitations!) as of April 30, 2012, the following information is available on caches placed within a 85 km radius around Saskatoon:
Number of Caches placed as of July 1, 2006: 36
Number of Caches placed as of July 1, 2011: 1615
This is an increase of 4380%!! WOW! This in large part can be attributed to the widely successful SCAR events! As of July 1, 2011, there were 750 caches with SCAR included in the title, accounting for 46.4% of the caches around Saskatoon! Based on Sask_girl_&_Novy's bookmarks, these are the number of caches placed during each event:
SCAR2011 - 241 (Currently 190 of which 17 are achived or disabled)
SCAR2010 - 234 (Currently 207 of which 11 are achived or disabled)
SCAR09 - 234 (Currently 176 of which 10 are achived or disabled)
SCAR08 - 131 (Currently 108 of which 11 are archived or disabled)
Total - 840 (Currently 677 of which 49 are achived or disabled)
How many of these have you found? As of April 30, 2012 SCAR caches have contribued almost 25% of my finds! Unfortunately, several of these caches have been archived or disabled. If this happens before your find them, you are forever unable to find them! So get out there, and find them while they are still available!!
How many will be added from SCAR2012? Check back on May 23, 2012 and you'll likely be able to find out!
