Geocache Description:

This cache is part of the Historic Route 66 Geocaching Project, a series created by the Historic Route 66 Association of Arizona and designated as an official Arizona Centennial Legacy Project by the Arizona Historical Advisory Commission. The property owner has given permission for the cache. High muggle traffic. BYOP.

Designed by J.N. Preston, this building was built in 1894 of local red sandstone. “The use of this red stone became the standard in Flagstaff after a series of fires devastated wood structures downtown.” (A history in stone uncovered, Betsey Bruner, Daily Sun Reporter, July 28, 2010). Other buildings that incorporated the use of this source of stone also called Moenkopi, include Old Main at NAU, the Flagstaff and Holbrook railroad depots, Flagstaff Federated Community Church, the Babbitt Brothers building and the historic Weatherford Hotel.
