Geocache Description:

Shingles is a virus disease and the infection attacks beneath the skin. It produces pain, itching, and tiny blisters along nerve lines. From ancient times to this day, superstitious people have feared a complete encirclement of their bodies by the rash would mean certain death. Although the more violent form of this disease is rare, it is not fatal.

There are many old wives tales for the cure for shingles, and these include:
  • A poultice of cranberries.
  • A salve made of sulphur.
  • Lard and ten drops of camphor.
  • Rub warm, fresh blood from a black cat or hen over the affected area.
