Geocache Description:

Number 5 of a series of caches that take you on a circular tour of the Harelaw Dam. The whole series takes about 2 hours and walking boots are recommended.

Harelaw Dam was constructed in 1844. It is a large shallow reservoir (average depth 7 feet and maximum 13 feet) extending to 102 acres and has over 3 miles of shoreline. There are 4 dams and three islands.

The fifth cache in the series takes you to Lochend Hill. There is some evidence that there was a burial cairn situated here (the current cairn is a modern variety). This burial cairn is contemporary with cup and ring markings and hut circles nearby (there is an example of a Hut Circle on the opposite side of Long Loch at Laggen Hill).

Nowadays, the best reason to come here is for the view!
