Country Bridge 3 Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Mr.Science: The bridge was washed away this summer and it would be dangerous to search for the cache even though it's on a guard rail and was never on the bridge itself. I'm sorry to see this one go.

Geocache Description:

You are searching for an especially FASCINATING 4 cm cylinder containing a log only. Replace as found, please. Also be careful parking and walking near the road.

4/19/15 - Unfortunately the bridge has been somewhat repaired and the description below is no longer apt. But ... so what!

I never thought I would be able to top Country Bridge (GC1E1T5) and Country Bridge 2 (GC1T97P), caches hidden by JuneNY, but I honestly think I’ve found a bridge with a more transcendent design than hers. If you haven’t found her caches, please do, as they are nearby. You won’t be disappointed!

While the architecture of all three bridges is in many ways similar, an astute observer will notice the more abstract direction the engineers took in the layout of this bridge. Rather than the standardized and, quite frankly, stale straight guardrails, consider the nonuniform and almost erratic positioning here. It almost appears as if they were damaged in a recent flood, yet are still quite functional, despite their bent and uneven structure. The missing bolts and tilted support columns add an element of adventure and even danger. The bridge surface being rather amorphous and unsettled, brings back the feel of the overpasses of our great grandparents and keeps the driver attentive as the car bounces and jounces. For an even greater thrill, park and then walk to the center of the bridge, lean over the railing and look down at the raging torrent of the stream below. The view is quite disconcerting especially when you realize that the water is more than 3,000 millimeters below your feet.

One of the canons of hiding a geocache is to ask yourself, “Why am I bringing someone to this place?” I think that when you arrive at any of these bridges where JuneNY and I have hidden caches you will appreciate the answer to that question. We challenge any local cachers to find a more superlative span and then, place a cache. So take a drive out here in western Otsego County and enjoy these bucolic bridges.
