Geocache Description:

P. S. P. The company name for Penrice Soda Production. Over the hill from this cache is the Penrice Soda Production mine, the company that mines/quarries calcium carbonate which after processing at Osborne in Adelaide becomes Soda Ash, the main ingredient of glass. Years ago before it was made illegal glass manufacturers used shell grit as found on beachfronts, which also was calcium carbonate. When the quarry first opened they used to produce 1500 ton of calcium carbonate a year all quarried by hand. I can remember the year they produced 1 million ton, the boss shouted us all with whiskey. Nowadays with heavy machinery they extract 5 to 8 million tonne a year and rail it to Adelaide for processing. Pieces of extra white rock as found on the track nearby is close to 98% pure calcium carbonate and if dropped into battery acid will dissolve over time, with a lot of bubbling and fizzing. Please bring along you favorite writing tool incase the pencil goes AWOL.
