How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

NOTE: The entrance fee has been waived for geocachers if they are only going to attempt the geocaches. If you are going to stay and use any other facilities you will need to pay the fee. CAUTION: The entrance road is plowed during snow events but not to the standard of highways so take care driving into the park during the winter. During periods of high water you can approach the cache from the trailhead in the campground. This increases the terrain difficulty.

PLEASE NOTE: There are a limited number of coins for each year of the CCGT Geotrial. When the coins for each year are gone, that trail will be archived. It is my intention to keep most of the caches I originally hid for the geotrail for the enjoyment of future cachers. Cessnascott

Curwensville Lake is a US Army Corp of Engineers flood control project. It was authorized on September 3, 1954. The earthfill structure is 2,850 feet long, rising 131 feet above the streambed. At full capacity the storage area extends 14 miles upstream. The project controls drainage afea of 365 sq miles or 98% of the West Branch at Curwensville.

The Corps has an agreement with Clearfield County for the County to operate and maintain the recreation area which includes a beach, boat launch, picnic areas, athletic fields, playgounds, picnic pavilions and a campground.

This cache is part of the Clearfield County 2012 Geotrail. It features parks and places of recreational activity. Clearfield County is blessed with many opportunities to enjoy yourself in your “off” time. The county is part of the Pennsylvania Wilds, home to millions of acres of unspoiled forests and mountains for hiking, fishing, biking or just watching the wildlife. In addition to hiking and biking Clearfield County features camping, hunting, golfing and the lists goes on. Each cache contains a unique self inking stamp to use in your CCGT passport book. Once you obtain and stamp your passport with 25 finds your passport can be validated for our commemorative coin. Please be respectful of property owners and only cache from dawn to dusk. Visit www.visitclearfieldcounty.org/outdoors/geotrail for information on where to obtain your passport and how to validate your book to receive your coin.

Other caches at the lake are RiverTrail/Eagles Nest (GC15QEB) and Curwensville Dam (GC152EG).
