A beautiful village that lies unspoiled away from the main Whitby to Guisborough road. PLEASE DO NOT PARK ON THE GRASS VERGE.
There are some lovely views across the Esk valley towards Sleights and the moors. The many fine, imposing stone houses in the village were built from locally quarried stone. The Aislaby quarry, which was reopened in 2002, supplied some of the finest sandstone for buildings in London and a host of English seaside piers. The grave of the famous Whitby photographer, Frank Meadow Sutcliffe, can be seen in the graveyard.I drive past the cache most days between 11.30 and 12.30 so be prepared to be muggled between these times.
