The Flying Boabs
Located in an old Quarry
RAAF Boab Quarry
Altough this ground was quarried for building material for the RAAF Curtin Air Base near Derby in the early 80's it seems to have been in use prior to that. In the process a gorge like crater has been gouged out of the rock which has since filled with fresh, clear water which is great for a swim or canoe and is quite deep in places. There are also small fish living in it but no crocs!
It is a great place to camp with plenty of flat areas to set up including some with a view to the water.
On some maps it it shown as Oscar Range Mine.
The cache is a medium sized screw top container hidden under some rocks.
To get there turn off at the waypoint S17*54.702' E125*17.748' and travel east 600m. Turn right up a track going up the hill to a turn around and small campsite. From here the cache is only about 20m away beyond a lawnmower(?).
