The community of Mayfair is located east of the Glenmore Reservoir, near the site of the Glenmore Dam. Mayfair was annexed to the City of Calgary in 1956 and neighbourhood developed in approximately 1957. Residents of Mayfair have access to numerous recreational activities provided by the proximity to Heritage Park, the Glenmore Reservoir, Calgary Golf and Country Club, and the pathway. Direct access to the Downtown, which is approximately 6 kilometres north of Mayfair, is available via Elbow Drive. As of 2011 470 people are living in Mayfair.
The site of the cache is on previously private properties before the Glenmore construction started in 2004 and changed the land use to open space. This 5.25 acre parcel is bound by Glenmore Trail to the south the north is an alley serving houses off of Massey Place and Malibou Road. The west end of the site is bound by Glenmore Park. The east end is bound by the interchange ramps. This space now accommodates a regional pathway, which ties in to the Glenmore Reservoir regional pathway and complements the existing on-street bike route (which is preferred for commuters). This increased the open space in the community from 3.3% to approximately 6.7%.
This is a great place to go for a walk and enjoy the sun. Numerous benches are provided. The nearby pedestrian bridge links the north and south part of Mayfair as well as it provides a pedestrian friendly link to the communities further south.
